“A Passion Followed”

I listened to a piano music station as I was doing some woodwork in my garage. My favorite background music played as I sanded and stained, sometimes listening, sometimes analyzing the wood…until Paul Cardall, “Gracie’s Theme,” plays.

This song is NOT background music…the wood can wait.

This song made me stop and exhale as a smile spread unwittingly across my face. In slightly short of five and a half minutes I was moved, thankful, hopeful…alive, and different.

Fast forward several months. While plummeting down the rabbit hole of technology while simply looking for the song, I stumbled across the artist’s story. As I listen, I realized that he had literally spoken through his piano. This song without any words has more meaning than any lyrics one could compose.

Well – I’m a deep thinker, so something more seems to come from everything, and this Paul Cardall TEDx talk was no different.

Here’s my takeaway.

Do what you do – wherever you are – whatever your situation – DO YOU. It is forever becoming real to me that we have no idea where NOW takes us. What if everything you do in all your time up to now leads you to YOUR place? What if the people that treated you bad and the people who lifted you up ALL had a significant place in your life? What if your illnesses and disabilities led you to be what you were so very obviously created to be?

In the following link you will hear his song, “Life and Death,” followed by his story, then “Gracie’s Theme.” Enjoy.
